CAACI exhibits at 18th Annual European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition

George Town, Grand Cayman, (June 2018) – The Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands
(CAACI) recently exhibited at the 18th annual European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition
(EBACE) tradeshow, which is held annually at the Palexpo Centre in Geneva, Switzerland. As EBACE
concluded on 30thMay, show organizers reported that there were 418 exhibitors, an increase over
last year’s event, from across the world. The sold‐out static display featured 54 aircraft on the
ramp at Geneva Airport, ranging from intercontinental business jets, to turboprop and piston
aircraft, to helicopters. The event also hosted introductions of new aircraft making their first
appearances at EBACE2018.
EBACE2018 began its opening day with a standing‐room‐only session featuring an awe‐inspiring
keynote presentation by Yves “Jetman” Rossy. An accomplished military and commercial pilot,
Rossy is also the inventor of a series of experimental individual jet packs that have given him the
ability to soar like a bird over the English Channel and U.S. Grand Canyon, and even fly in
formation with an Airbus A380. Numerous informative education sessions were held addressing
top concerns in the European business aviation community, including the implications of Brexit for
business aviation, improving access to European airspace and airports for business aviation
operators, promoting career opportunities within the industry and the role of business aviation in
times of crisis. For the second year, EBACE hosted the Careers in Business Aviation Day, which
introduced more than 250 students from high schools and universities across Europe to the broad
range of potential career paths throughout the industry.
Each year CAACI extends partnership opportunities with the local business community to offer a
prize package for a raffle at EBACE and would like to thank this years sponsors: Cayman Airways
Ltd, Kimpton Seafire Resort and Spa and the Lobster Pot for kindly donating this year’s prize
package. Mr. Luis Escribano of Madrid, Spain was the lucky winner of this fantastic package to the
islands.
The delegation of Cayman Islands’ businesses jointly exhibiting with the CAACI at EBACE included
Maples & Calder, Mrs. Sherice Arman, and Cayman Enterprise City, Mr. Charlie Kirkconnell,
promoting the Cayman Maritime & Aviation Services City established in the Special Economic
Zone. CAACI representatives included Director‐General, Mr. Richard Smith, Director of Finance
and Compliance, Mrs. Jane Panton, Airworthiness Surveyor (UK), Mr. Mike Wilcox, Director of Air
Safety Regulation, Mr. Lindsay Cadenhead and Business Development Officer, Ms. Melanie Hulse.
Representation materials were provided by the CAACI business partners from Stuarts Law and the
Department of Tourism (UK).
Director‐General, P. H. Richard Smith remarked, “The EBACE 2018 tradeshow is a signature event
for the CAACI in the promotion of the Cayman Islands Aircraft Registry. This year we were very
excited have representation from Maples and Calder and Cayman Enterprise City as we recently
received our first entrant to the ‘Cayman Maritime and Aviation Services City’ within the Cayman
Islands Special Economic Zone. Such well‐rounded representation at EBACE enabled visitors to our
booth to have all questions on company incorporation, financing, legal matters and queries on
flying into the jurisdiction answered along with enquiries on the aircraft registration processes.”
