Harneys staff recently completed the nine-week Cayman Finance Mentor Programme, which provides Caymanian students with information about the financial services industry, including employment opportunities in various sectors within the industry.
Harneys mentors helped students develop their professional skills, with a focus on interviewing, resume building, and increasing their understanding of the Cayman financial services industry and its important role in international finance.
Marco Martins, Managing Partner of Harneys’ Cayman office, commented: “Support of education and youth programmes is a key part of Harneys’ corporate social responsibility activities, and we believe that investment in the development of our young people is critical to building a strong future for the Cayman Islands.”
Earlier this year, Harneys sponsored the Annual Youth Parliament, which equips students from nine local educational institutions with knowledge of the Cayman Islands Legislature, and prepares them to conduct legislative business on their own during the day of the Youth Parliament.
In addition to its work within the community, Harneys continues to develop Caymanian talent from within, and recently welcomed back Sydonie Barrett, the first recipient of the Harneys Cayman Islands Scholarship, for the summer. Sydonie is currently studying Law at the University of Surrey in England and expects to complete her LLB in 2018.
Meanwhile, the firm recently congratulated Caymanian Janeen Al-Jadir, the third graduate from Harneys’ Professional Development Programme (PDP), who was admitted to practise as an Attorney at Law in the Cayman Islands on 20 May 2016. Janeen has joined Harneys as an associate within the transactional team, and the firm has also accepted two new Caymanian trainees scheduled to start their rotations in September 2016.
Harneys has made significant strides this year with the continued growth of the Cayman office, and in June announced the recruitment of senior associate Jonathan McLean to its Corporate & Finance Transactional Team.
Marco Martins, Harneys’ Cayman Islands Managing Partner, commented: “Our ability to attract a Caymanian lawyer of Jonathan’s calibre reflects the significant advances we have made in growing our Cayman practice and speaks volumes of our commitment and ability to deliver high quality legal service to our global clients.”
Harneys continues its commitment to hiring and developing Caymanians as it grows its presence on the island, and plans to announce additional hires in the coming weeks and months.
