Maples and Calder has named Michael Gagie, global head of its BVI law practice, as the firm’s Singapore managing partner and will shortly relocate him from Hong Kong. It has also promoted associate Jess Stock to of counsel position.
Gagie, who joined Maples and Calder in 2010, spent eight years in Hong Kong, including a stint with Harney Westwood & Riegels, where he was Hong Kong managing partner. He practises both BVI and Cayman Islands law, and focuses on corporate, private equity and finance work.
“We are very pleased to make this announcement and look forward to Michael taking up the position in due course,” said Shaun Denton, managing partner of Maples and Calder in Hong Kong, in a statement. “Michael’s contributions to the Hong Kong office have been outstanding and, in line with our long-term commitment to the region, we anticipate continued success in the Singapore office. Michael will be ably supported by Jess, partner Tom Katsaros and associate GraceTeo.”
Maples and Calder opened its Hong Kong office in 1995, and established its Singapore office, its second office in Asia, in 2012. In 2013, it opened the Singapore office of MaplesFS which provides fiduciary and fund administration services to Cayman, BVI and Singapore entities.
